When planting trees, shrubs, or perennials, we recommend adding a Planting Mix and a Starter Fertilizer to the soil.

Pick ONE of these:

Planting mixes amend the soil to improve aeration & texture, improving drainage and the ability to retain moisture. It also makes it easier for developing roots to work their way into the soil.

Plus ONE of these:

Use Espoma Bio-tone Starter or Root & Grow from Bonide every time you plant, in order to promote strong root growth. For acid-loving plants such as holly, azalea, and rhododendron, use Holly-tone.

We also recommend:

Tree gator bags hold water at the base of the tree and slowly release moisture into the soil over time. This is great for plantings that are beyond the reach of your hose, or if you’re going to be away for a little while. Soaker hoses and tree-soaker rings are also great for giving your new planting the water it needs, and you can even hook it up to a timer at the spigot. And of course you’ll need a shovel!
